Something Overwhelming has Overwhelmed Us
Consider an analogy – a distant storm approaches on the horizon. But this is no ordinary storm – it can rain down pennies from heaven. What do people do? The beg the storm to overwhelm them and make them rich. That it also destroys them they do not mind – they have gotten used to the idea that they are nothing.
In other words, this happens in two stages – first, people view themselves as inadequate as individual people. Second, they trade their human life for life as super-beings. Two things are involved here also – the rise of the masses and a technology explosion. This process takes over one hundred years – using subtle changes not perceptible to most.
These changes were noticed – by the American Transcendentalists, for example. But they were ignored. They are being noticed now – with the same result: they are being ignored.
