I keep wondering if the advances in Software Development can be generalized to the larger world. Some of the latest developments might be amenable to this.
I refer you to Building Microservices – beginning at location 477. Which speaks of organizational goals.
Martin Fowler (who has written a number of books I cannot afford) is the authority here – and I have ordered his book on UML, because I am familiar with the technology – and because a used copy is so cheap. Hopefully this will be the breakthrough that will let me bridge the barrier between programmers and ordinary people.
The key concept here is planning, which the Merriam-Webster Unabridged defines as:
the act or process of making or carrying out plans; specifically : the establishment of goals, policies, and procedures for a social or economic unit
We are social creatures, and we have to plan at the social level.
The first step, however, must be the determination to plan our future – and not just let it happen. It amazes me how difficult this can be. People will do anything to avoid taking responsibility for the future of their world.
Stay tuned for further developments.
