The church I am referring to was my family’s RLDS church. That, for my parents, was their whole world.
They knew nothing of the Economy – although (unbeknownst to them) they were an active part of it.
My father was a small businessman, and most church members had family farms. Both disappeared in the Sixties. And the church disappeared also.
My family will dispute these changes hotly – and insist that nothing has changed – when everything has changed.
They were too close to what happened – while I, having left the church much earlier, had enough distance to see what happened.
Huge changes happened. America went from being the most powerful nation in history – to one power among many. The Economy also went from being impregnable – to being highly vulnerable.
In the midst of all this – our little church also disappeared.
