We have always had many enemies – as any living being has. Consider this:
“Malicious elements are ubiquitous in complex systems,” says cybersecurity expert and Santa Fe Institute fellow Stephanie Forrest. “That’s true of biological systems, ecologies, markets, political systems, and of course the Internet.”
That’s quite a list. And we have only one defense – to outsmart them. Or to make ourselves poisonous – so we won’t get eaten. This is not much of a defense – since it destroys us also.
But it is the strategy we have chosen.
