I consider myself an expert on this subject, because I have bought so many of them that were useless – I was beginning to wonder if these companies had lost their collective minds. Why would they sell something that did not work?
The answer seems to be – because they can! Defective products are easy to make, people will buy them – and the company will make money. This is not ethical, but it is profitable.
Nikon has put a lot of thought into the user interface for this camera. The user manual is huge – about 2 ft. by 3 ft. – and is complete. There are buttons on the back of it for everything, logically arranged.
To connect it to your laptop, you can use the SD card it uses to store your photos and videos on. Remove it from the camera, and plug it into the slot into your laptop. The ViewNX 2 software, which you must download from Nikon, will take over and upload your image files to your laptop. Or you can use a USB cable to do the same thing.
You can also make images with your smartphone – snap a photo, and upload it to your laptop. And this will satisfy most people.
But if you want to do more, you have to use a camera – having zoom, for example, is very handy. And making videos opens new horizons. Video files are huge, made of hundreds of photos. And to share them, you have to use YouTube.
