Microsoft has been a mixed bag – Visual Studio is a fine IDE, and .NET has provided some fine capabilities – but Microsoft has not been trusted, because of its ruthless business practices.
What about Netscape and Sun Microsystems? You might ask. They made substantial contributions – and went out of business.
Good question. And, it seems to me – the answer is easy – they were too far ahead of their time. You gotta be ahead – but not too far ahead – or you get shot down, by your own troops!
